How To Create Your Vision Board in 8 Easy Steps!

Step 1: Define Your Goals

With any goal-setting process, you have to spend time reflecting and planning ahead for the New Year and what you want to accomplish. Plan for goals in the following areas:

  • Health Goals
  • Career Goals
  • RelationShip Goals
  • Finance Goals
  • FUN Goals!

Start with one to two goals in each category to get started. Remember to keep them attainable to your season of life.

Step 2: Choose Your Platform

If you are new to Canva, head over to their site and create a free account! If you are choosing to go the traditional posterboard route, then take a trip to Target, and grab your poster, tape, glue, and pretty markers!

Step 3: Gather Your Words and Images

For an online version of a Vision Board, I love Pinterest. Create a private board, and search for images that relate to your goals for the upcoming year. I also like to include my word of the year, so search for cute images of your Word too! You can also seach Canva’s library for images too!

Step 4: Create Your Layout

Before you start designing your Vision Board, think about the size you want it. Since we are creating it in Canva, you will have to print it. Do you want something small like a 5×7 or a larger 8×11? You can create an even larger Board- just spend time thinking about where you will display yours, and the appropriate size.

In Canva’s search bar type, “vision board.” Search through the images that come up, and choose a layout that speaks to you. When you customize it, pay attention to the size! You can also customize your Vision Board from scratch as well.

Step 5: Arrange Your Vision

Once you’ve gathered your inspiration, it’s time to bring your vision board to life! If you’re going the paper route, start by arranging your images, quotes, and words on your poster board or canvas. Get creative with it – there are no rules here!

If you’re creating a digital vision board on Canva, simply drag and drop your chosen elements onto your design and arrange them to your liking. Add your own words to your Canva Vision Board so that it feels personal to you!

You can organize your board by goal category. FOr example, keeping your business goals on the left and personal goals on the right. You can mix and match, make a pattern- this is your Vision Board- so create it how you wish!

Step 6: Add Affirmations, Quotes, or Word of the Year

I love a personalized word of inspiration on my Vision Board. I like to add my Word of the Year. It is a reminder to past words of the years that I have chosen!

Step 7: Save. Print. Display!

Now that your vision board is complete, it’s time to put it to work! Save your project, and send it over to your local printing place, and schedule time to pick it up.

Then, hang it somewhere you’ll see it every day – your bedroom, office, or even your bathroom mirror. Take a few moments each day to visualize yourself living your dreams and goals as if they’ve already come true. I hang mine on my office door, so I see it every day!

Step 8: Revisit and Revise Your Goals

Use your vision board as a powerful tool to keep you motivated, accountable, and focused on your goals. Remember to spend time quarterly to view it and make sure you are where you want to be with your goals!

Don’t forget to celebrate your wins along the way – no matter how big or small! Whether it’s treating yourself to your favorite restaurant or simply telling your best friend about your accomplishment, celebrating your achievements keeps you motivated and inspired to keep pushing forward.

Make It a Fun Girls’ Night In

Vision boards aren’t just about goals—they’re also a fun way to connect with friends! Host a vision board party, either virtually or in person. Provide snacks, music, and plenty of creative energy. Sharing dreams with others can deepen connections and even spark new ideas for your goals.

I even made a Vision Board with my daughter (7)! She found it very fun to be connecting with mom and talking about her goals for the year!
