End Of Year Review

Why do you need to take time to do an End-of-Year Review?

An End of Year Review is necessary for growth, because to know what feels good, what needs to change, what habits to break or implement, etc, you have to know where you are. Everything needs to be measured so that when you later look back on your growth, you can identify how far you’ve come. This also allows room for gratitude for the people in your life

You cannot create a new version of yourself without knowing where you currently are and how you feel about certain areas of your life. How do you know what needs to shift if you never take the time to yourself and ask yourself some questions?

What Is an End-of-Year Review?

An End of Year Review is a time for Self-reflection to allow personal growth. Reflection for our actions, for what happened to us and how we possibly allowed those events to happen to us, to what and who made us feel really good inside, and what boundaries we need to implement and remove ourselves from.

Self-reflection means we have to take a look at the things that went well in our lives, and also dig into what didn’t go well in our lives. Sometimes that will bring up some levels of accountability that we need to take for ourselves, and possibly create shame. Self-Shame is not the intention. But recognizing pieces of ourselves that need improvement, is the intention.

Once you acknowledge and take accountability for your shortcomings, that is where personal growth happens! And THAT is the intention and goal of an end-of-year review!

When Is A Good Time To Do An End Of Year Review?

Whenever there is a lull in the Holiday hustle and bustle. That may be in November, or the week after Christmas when life finally (haha) calms down. Pick a Sunday morning that you get up a little earlier, grab some coffee, and a pen and paper. And just allow yourself the open-mindedness of going through these questions.

Or, if you don’t have that much time, pick one question a day, and go through them one by one. A10-minute journal entry daily with these questions will allow the same personal growth. As long as you are taking the time to do the work!

My Answers to My End-Of-Year Review:

I’ve picked a few of the questions listed above, and here are my answers.

  • 1. I have two that are equally important to me. We took our first family trip Out West to the Grand Canyon and Mt. Zion, and second I paid off my student loans!!
  • 4. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
  • 7. I spent time learning about how to make Sourdough Bread! One, it’s delicious. Two, I got to chat more with my friends who also were trying it. Three, I really enjoy learning new things. Fourth, it will be something I can share with my daughter.
  • 11. This one is tough. My heart definitely got broken this year, and out of left field, so it was really hard. I did my own self-reflection, and I realized that I unintentionally allowed people to fill voids that weren’t theirs to fill. And by doing that, I set myself up for some deep hurt. Sometimes the voids people leave in our lives become holes we try and fill, when in reality, we have to accept our hearts live with holes.
  • 13. I need to stop giving my advice when it isn’t asked for. I am an “‘ll figure it out” type of person, and sometimes our people just need to be heard, and not given a four-step action plan.
  • 15. My top goal for this year is to push myself so far out of my comfort zone, and write an ebook, and I would really love to launch a goal-setting course.
  • 17. Organize my closet.
  • 19. I was proud of myself when I submitted my student loan balance in full. I was proud of myself when I did some hard inner work. I was proud of myself when I read more than 1 personal growth book this year. I was proud of myself any time I practiced patience with my daughter. I was proud of myself when I started getting active with Hey Goal Sister again. I was proud of myself when I ran a 5K after a tough training session. I am proud of myself for the life and family my husband and I have created together.
  • 21. Drink my water daily!
  • 23. My inner critic has talked me out of maintaining this platform so many times! My progress with my goals suffer greatly because of it.
  • 25. We Can Do Hard Things by Glennon Doyle.
  • 26. My favorite self care is waking up early and drinking coffee in the quiet, and running.
